Bikes, bands & beer – Big Bike Bash 2016 review!

Family biking fun this August Bank Holiday

If you haven’t yet decided what to do with your August Bank Holiday, we’ve got a hot tip for you – get yourself down to the Big Bike Bash in the New Forest, Hampshire.

Officially described as ‘3 days of awesome bike related madness, races and challenges for all ages and abilities’, our assessment of the 2015 festival was, ‘top marks from us… a fantastic celebration of bike-oriented family fun.’ Read our full 2015 festival write-up here >>

On top of all the fun bike action, add-in live music every day – and a smorgasbord of real ales from the beer tent – and you’ll understand why the Pedal Planner crew will be camped out at the festival this August Bank Holiday. In fact, this year’s Pedal Planner Big Bike Bash delegation will be 3 times the size of last year’s – and that says it all!

Quite simply, the festival offers a jam-packed, fun-filled programme of bike activities that caters for everyone: from toddlers taking their first freewheels, to thrill seeking kids of every age.

If children’s challenges, youth races, wheelie, track stand, limbo and bunny-hop competitions sound like too much fun, fear not – the schedule also includes XC, gravity, night riding and hill climb races, so competitive dads and mums will have plenty of riding opportunities, too. And when it’s time to cool-off after the race, look no further than the lake jump…

Off the bike: a jam packed, fun-filled programme!

  • Beer tent with huge choice of top ales, cider and wine? Tick.
  • Food stalls with quality grub, ice cream and good coffee? Tick
  • Live music from some of the best bands from the south of England? Oh yes.
  • Stuff to do: canoes; climbing wall; craft table; chill out zone? It’s all there.
  • Camping included in the ticket price? Naturally. Or you can choose to stay in the comfort of the Avon Tyrrell house or lodges.

The Big Bike Bash is a true family festival involving bikes, bands and beer. Now in its 7th year, it’s attended by 500+ people over the Bank Holiday weekend (this year’s dates: Friday 26th-Monday 29th August.)

Fun Central is Avon Tyrrell, a youth activity centre in the idyllic surroundings of Hampshire’s New Forest (BH23 8EE). Avon Tyrrell is surrounded by 65 acres of its own beautiful grounds, perfect for some sweet singletrack and XC riding!

Even better news is that all this fun is for a very good cause. The centre’s run by national youth work charity UK Youth, and over its lifetime the BBB festival has raised around £60,000 for the charity, helping to fund new facilities and activities for young people.
